• Crystal Bay Farm – 40 Zils Rd., Watsonville; 831-724-4137; www.crystalbayfarm.com. Grows and sells berries and pumpkins from its self-serve farm stand and also offers farm tours.

• Earthbound Farm’s Farm Stand – 7250 Carmel Valley Rd., Carmel; 800-690-3200; 831-625-6219; www.ebfarm.com. Produce and organic and gourmet grocery specialties, as well as events on most Saturdays, such as craft workshops and bug walks, plus a kids’ garden.

• The Farm – Off Hwy. 68 (Spreckles Rd. exit), Salinas; 831-455-2575; www.thefarm-salinasvalley.com. Monday-Saturday, 9am-6pm (Apr.-Dec. 22), 9am-5pm until April. Tours Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, 1pm (reservations required). Designed to tell the story of contemporary farming, the site features an agricultural education center, demonstration farm, produce stand and recreation destination, as well as giant sculpture and farm animals.

• Gizdich Ranch – 55 Peckham Rd., Watsonville; 831-722-1056; www.gizdich-ranch.com. Pick-your-own apples, strawberries, boysenberries and raspberries, as well as an annual Apple Butter Festival the third Saturday of October featuring a pumpkin patch and hayrides.

• Live Earth Farm – 172 Litchfield Ln., Watsonville; 831-763-2448; www.liveearthfarm.net. This organic farm allows members to purchase two different sizes of shares of fruits and vegetables and also holds farm celebrations, workshops and field trips.

• Mariquita Farm – Watsonville; 831-761-8380; www.mariquita.com. This small family farm grows organic specialty vegetables, strawberries, greens and herbs and offers u-pick days and farm tours.

• Rodoni Farms – Hwy 1, 4 miles north of Santa Cruz; 831-426-6438; www.rodonifarms.com. Offers Brussels sprouts and a pick-your-own pumpkin area with a corn maze and picnic sites.

• Swank Farms – 2600 San Felipe Rd., Hollister; 831-637-4704; www.swankfarms.com. Features three corn mazes, pumpkin patch, haunted ranch and kiddy korral.

• Swanton Berry Farm – Hwy. 1, 2 miles north of Davenport (about 12.5 miles from Santa Cruz); 831-469-8804; www.swantonberryfarm.com. Features a farm stand selling baked goods and organic strawberries, as well as u-pick strawberries, olallieberries, kiwis and Christmas trees.

• UCSC Farm & Garden – UCSC, Coolidge Dr., Santa Cruz; 831-459-3240; http://ucsc.edu/casfs. Visit this two-acre garden and 25-acre farm for fresh organic produce and flowers, as well as the harvest festival in October.
